Rock Candy Update and Great 7 Year old Ideas!

So here are the results of our Rock Candy Experiment.

Most of the jars actually grew candy crystals on the top,
as well as on the bottom of the jars.

I have a theory that the sticks where the candy was supposed
to grow were messed with a bit TOO much
for them to grow very large.

But they were still super yummy and
some of them turned out Super Beautiful!

In the middle of extracting all this yummy rock candy
Lunch needed to be served.

Enter the brain of a 7 year old.

Suddenly this plain old meal of Hot Dogs
is a Creative Adventure!

Hot dog, pickle, and cheese skewers
are SOOOOO much fun!!

When the power goes out??

What do you do when the power goes out at your house?

We take advantage of it around here!

Thank goodness we had some glow sticks laying around
that didn't get used last car trip!

50 of them actually.

These kids had a great time.

I was grateful for good neighbors who stopped in to make sure
they weren't the only ones without power and
be sure we were o.k. in the process.

Rainy Camping (aka making the most of things!)

So I almost called this post the camping trip where
NOTHING turned out the way we thought!

But I'm focusing on the positive.
like these kids definitely were!

There was lots of Snuggles and Hiding out from the rain
in the tent singing and playing games.

There were still plenty of Super Fun Camping Adventures!

Like Hiking!
(we just wore All the layers we could find!)

Yummy Camp Food!

And even some unexpected adventures,
playing new games in the van!!

Camping in the rain was definitely a challenge,
I'm glad our kids are resilient!

Bike CRASH!!

So remember my relaxing day?

That soooo didn't last long.
We decided to head out to nose hill park
for a family bike ride.

Ms. E took on a downhill that took out her nose!
Man it was so fast and we were worried
she broke her nose.

But after relaxing watching movies.
Things got back to normal.
(if fat lip and black eye is normal?)

I'm sure it had everything to do with the Slurpee.

They Solve Everything!

PJ Day

Hahaha so Enough with all the outdoor, science,
excitement from summer holidays!

We had been sooo busy through July and
August wasn't looking less tiresome.

So I Declared a Random Day PAJAMA DAY!

Filled with cartoons and cold cereal and pb&j.

Low key for the kids and low key for me!!

Bears Hump Waterton

Last year the girls hiked Bears hump in the summer with their dad.
I played at the park with Mr. T and Grandma
while Ms. V slept in the stroller.

This year we all went up together.
It was great!!

I was glad to switch packs with Shane on the way down.
After carrying Ms. V in the backpack to the top,
I was glad for a nearly empty lunch pack.

The kids did Amazing!!
Ms. A even Recovered Pretty well after falling on the trail
and getting a super scrape!

After the hike the kids were all super excited to play
at the spray park with cousins!
A great way to cool down and get wet!!

Bread In a Bag!

I confess I have been looking forward to doing this with the kids!!

The concept is that you mix all the ingredients in a
Large ziploc bag and watch as all the chemical reactions
take place that go into making bread.

Ms. A loves learning about baking, Ms. E loves anything
that is messy and Mr. T just loves being included!

It was soooo much fun!  Ms. E loved how squishy and warm
her bag was getting and was SUPER excited that she
was making cinnamon rolls.

I was so proud of these kids learning something new and yummy!

Mr. T wanted Buns so he could snack on buns
with jam or regular butter.
(as opposed to Peanut Butter!)

Nanton Round-Up Days

At the end of July Shane's Mom volunteered to
take the girls for a few days of vacation with her.

When we met up to take them home
we thought we were just meeting in Nanton.
But it turns out we rolled into town
just after the parade for Nanton Round-Up days.

There were bouncy houses and a petting zoo
and the air museum was doing demonstrations.

So much for a quick stop!
We loved it all, especially Mr. T.
He was not happy to leave the bouncy houses.
Ms. E even lost a tooth inside one - Haha!
