We had a grand day exploring at Islet Lake.
Shane had taken the kids to
Cooking Lake-Blackfoot Recreation Area
just north of the lake during the winter
to Ski the trails.
This was an eventful day.
It was very buggy, and as early season adventures go a little boggy, but that also meant there were plenty of birds swooping off the lake for fish and bugs, as well as plentiful butterflies.
There were plenty of walking sticks to be found along the path.
Right after this Ms. E. had an incident with hers.
Then on the way up the hill she stepped on a snake.
She didn't see it, and stepped right on it.
Sucky moment for both of them!
We stopped plenty of times to watch the
birds dive into the water.
Everyone took turns pushing the stroller.
Ms. V had been pretty sick
the day before, so we were glad she
was eager to get out of the stroller.
There were plenty of cool rocks to be found.
The trails were well marked and there
were plenty of maps that they took
turns way-finding on.
Ms. A loved taking pictures with shanes phone.
Eventually Mr. T decided the best way to get
away from the bugs was to run ahead.
(They were gnats and flies, so just annoying.)
There were plenty of butterflies,
can you spot them?
We also talked a lot about how trees grow,
the aspen trees were shedding their bark.
We also found some burrows much to big for gophers,
and made guesses about what kind of animals
might live there.
This Creeped out the girls until I let them
know it was just a squished cat tail.
We also got to see plenty of beaver dam's
and downed trees.
lots of work going on around the lake.
The kids got really good at finding
the birds nests as well.
Coming early in the season made
it a little easier.
After a quick stop at the bathroom
we were on our way home.
We thought but then we decided to take the
kids for another adventure!
